8230 San Fernando Way – Spanish Villa

The article below was published in the Dallas Morning News on June 21, 1925, but no location was provided. The mystery of the Spanish Villa location was not easily solved. This home demonstrates that in the early development of Forest Hills, a variety of architectural styles were used.

In an ad on August 23, 1925, the location is described. Note that Harry B. Mummert is the owner.

The ad below was published in the Dallas Morning News on November 22, 1925 again without a location.

On April 28, 1926 Harry B. Mummert sold the Spanish Villa to Paul B. Anthony and sale identified the home location as Lot 11 block 9. The Block number and Lot number were plotted on the Plat from 1925 and it matches the description perfectly. The Block and Lot numbers are still in use today with the Central Appraisal District.

A photo of the home was captured in 2011 for the Forest Hills Virtual Walking Tour of architectural styles and historically significant homes. The date the home built was shown as 1920 in 2011 not 1925 which further led to difficulty in identifying the address. The rendition of the home (first ad) shows the three arches being identical in height and width. The for sale photo which was just recently discovered shows the arches match perfectly to the photo from 2011. The home in the 2011 photo is clearly stone, The ad mentions “tile original in artistic design”. In addition, the ad mentions a bubbling fountain. There was a bubbling fountain in front of the home shown in the 2011 photos

It is unknown why the home looks so different than the 1925 advertising especially in the roof lines and why the dates do not match.

The home no longer exists. The current home was built in 2017.
