Parks and Trails

Dallas has numerous parks and trails for recreation. Constructed in 1911, the White Rock Lake area is the nearest city park to Forest Hills and became a city park in 1929. There are severalf lookout points built around the lake. Perhaps the most interesting one is below the dam, especially after a heavy rain. The park comprises 1,873 acres, of which 1,088 acres are the lake itself. Other parks contiguous to White Rock include the Flagpole Hill Park, Norbuck Park, Lakewood Park, Tokalon Park, Lake Highlands Park, and the Dallas Arboretum.

White Rock Trail circumnavigates the lake. The Katy Trail runs from the American Airlines theater to McComas/Highland Park. The Sante Fe trail runs from The White Rock Lake Loop Trail West all the way to the edge of Deep Ellum and Fair Park and passes above Garland Rd. at the south end of White Rock Lake.
